Step 3 - Setting up your new equipment
Single private telephone lines
Connecting this equipment is simple; as a general rule there is only one point on your telephone where you can connect a recorder and that is at the point where the curly cord of the handset enters the body of the phone.
You must unplug the curly cord and insert the special connector from the recorder then reconnect the curly cord into the coupler.
If you have a cordless telephone you simply need to purchase the 142 connector, which will enable you to connect your equipment via the base of your cordless telephone.
Business telephones PBX extensions - 'single line recorders' (connects same as above)
This procedure will work well about 98% of the time as most telephone manufacturers wire their handsets the same way. If your telephone handset is not wired this way, you will need a specially wired 'coupler' to correct the problem. (contact us to provide you with the correct connecters)
Business telephones PBX extensions - 'Multi-line recorders'
If you intend to purchase one of these recorders your requirement is of a more serious nature. It will be installed at a central point and cable (for the designated telephone extensions) will be run from the telephone switch (PBX)) to the recorder.
To avoid problems you should always remember that your equipment requires an analogue input signal from the PBX. If your PBX is digital with digital feeds to the extensions then these cannot be used. You will need to connect your recorder to the analogue trunk lines before they enter the PBX and you will require an approved telecoms engineer to do this work.
